Caution: Prayin' Ahead

In the fall of 2008 I went to the ReVisioning exhibition at the Granville Island Hotel in Vancouver, BC. Victoria artist Dale Roberts was exhibiting a found-art piece called Caution: Prayin' Ahead. The work, which seemed both an exploration and reaction to Christianity, resonated deeply with me.

As so often happens, inspiration took the form of a story idea. As I studied Dale's work, I began to feel the presence of a nomadic character - a refugee from Christianity, later named Bartholomew.

Prayin' Ahead has morphed into an interactive writing project with no start, no finish and no fixed destination. All I know is that Bartholomew is out there looking for salvation, and his friends are keeping up with him through emails to the.apostate@hotmail.com, on Flickr, and on the Prayin' Ahead blog. You're welcome to join in the pursuit or to watch from the sidelines.

I might start up a FaceBook page for Bartholomew, but for now feel I've got enough to manage without it.
